Passive and active acoustic monitoring have an expanding role in determining the presence and size of marine animal populations, measuring the effects of man-made sounds on the environment, and studying the heat content of the ocean. This session will present the latest research into propagation of sounds in the Arctic, distributions and behaviour of marine life with and without human interactions as measured using acoustics, the source levels and acoustic footprint of human activities in the Arctic and applications of acoustic tomography to measure Arctic ocean heat content.
